  What Is Rotary?

Rotary began as an idea more than 100 years ago and is a global network of community volunteers. Rotary members are business, professional and community leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Today, Rotary flourishes worldwide in more than 200 countries with over 32000 rotary clubs and 1.2 million members. Rotary Clubs across the world initiate service projects to address today's global challenges including illeteracy, desiease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water and environmental concerns.

Objective of Rotary:

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of worthy enterprise and in, particular, to encourage and foster:

First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity of service

Second: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

Third: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life.

Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

   RC Madras Temple City

The birth of the Rotary Club of Madras Temple City was as momentous as the beginning of Rotary itself. After more than 80 years of being an exclusive organisation for men, Rotary International admitted women on 1st July, 1989. Within a week, on July 6th, 1989 the Rotary Club of Madras Temple City was Chartered with an evenly distributed membership of men and women, with Rekha Shetty as it Charter President. The first of many firsts in the years to come.

Today we are 20 years old and are firmly ensconced on the Rotary map of the District 3230, with a superb, eclectic mix of professional men and women. We bring to the Rotary movement a lot of dynamism and commitment that we firmly believe is unprecedented. We enjoy great fellowship and work unitedly towards the varied social causes we serve through Rotary.

   Rotary's 4 Way Test

Of the things we think say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and  BETTER FRIENDSHIP?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
